Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff Andersonنموونە

Day 39
OBEDIENCE…AND MORE DIRTY WORK
[Scheduled Reading: Jeremiah 35-50]
I love the story of the Rechabites (Jeremiah 35).
God picks out this family and has them tested to see if they would drink wine. But the sons uphold the traditions and teachings of the family forefathers and refuse the wine.
God uses the Rechabites to make a point to the Israelites - The Rechabites have obeyed their father about drinking wine, but you (Israelites) don’t obey me (God)! [v14]
Meanwhile, throughout the rest of today’s read we see more “dirty work” for prophet Jeremiah. As a writer myself, having to rewrite the entire scrolls doesn’t sound fun.
(Yeah - the king burned the first set of scrolls).
Next Jeremiah is imprisoned, and cast into a cistern where he sank into the mud (Jer 38:6).
More dirty work for the prophet.
Seeing Jeremiah’s life in this context helps me to better appreciate his obedient legacy.
