Back To School – Prayers For Parentsنموونە

God, Help My Kids Dream Big
A common question we hear people ask our kids is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s fun to hear their answers whether it be a veterinarian, dolphin trainer, or fire fighter!
What if we changed that question to, “What problem do you want to solve when you grow up?” This helps kids dream of being a big problem solver. They may dream of curing cancer or helping kids who are being bullied.
As our kids start a new year of school, we can encourage our kids to dream big! Here are some helpful suggestions.
- Dream Together – Take the boring moments of your day and transform them into “dream time.” For example, you may be sitting at a stoplight and see a homeless person. Ask your kids to dream about how to help the homeless population in your community. Or maybe you’re listening to the radio and hear a news story about poverty. Dream with your kids about how to help alleviate the suffering of those who live in poverty.

- Serve Together – When we help our kids to see the needs of people around them, they will come up with some great ideas. Show them how they can make a positive impact to those around them.
In places where people live in poverty, kids aren’t taught how to dream. They are often trapped in a cycle where dreams are squelched and hope is hard to come by. This is the case in Guatamala. However, Alicia saw a need in her community and decided to commit her life to fixing it. You can watch Alicia’s story where she was challenged to dream big. You can view it here.
Let’s commit to helping our kids who dream big for Jesus!
Suggested Prayer
God, I want my kids to think beyond their own needs and wants. Help me find ways to cheer them on in their dreaming. May they see the needs of those around them and find solutions. Give my children a heart to always serve You.
