Longing For Jesusنموونە

One of the many reasons scholars offer to attest the validity of the Bible is that its prophesies are fulfilled. In today’s reading the Lord reminds the people of Israel that he is yet to fulfill a promise made to them. Before they forget he reminds them of his promise. What is this promise? Rather, who is the promise? It is Jesus!
Peter Stoner says that the possibility of the Old Testament prophesies being fulfilled in Jesus is 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. And yet it occurred in history. This longing for the messiah lasted for centuries and then he arrived on Christmas. Why did he come? Jesus came to execute justice, righteousness, faithfulness, and wisdom. And to establish his kingdom forever (Isaiah 9:7).
Just as the people of Israel were dissatisfied with empty promises, today you might be dissatisfied and frustrated with people you have looked up to. Additionally, to make matters worse you might be feeling helpless in the clutches of the oppressor.
When Jesus draws near to us every failed responsibility is fulfilled in him. He will also deliver us from the hand of the oppressor (Jeremiah 22:3). His death and resurrection ultimately delivered us from the clutches of the oppressor. Every other oppressor is a little pawn in the hands of a defeated oppressor.
The tables have turned. Now we who stem from Jesus’ branch – the offspring of the Messiah – will be beautiful, glorious, and his pride and honor (Isaiah 4:2).
This advent season as you wait for Christmas with all your unfulfilled dreams—cornered, lost, and wondering "what next?", keep your eyes set on Jesus. He keeps his promises. You are His pride and honor. Don’t give up. “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord. When I will fulfill the promise I made…”
