DAY FOUR: Be Hungry for God
Fasting has amazing spiritual benefits. First and foremost, it helps you come closer to Jesus than you have ever been. But how so?
We humans tend to use food to soothe the torment in our wounded souls. But when you pacify your pain with food instead of the Lord, you can lose your hunger to pursue Him. Physical hunger is good and, if sustained, can cause your spiritual appetite to awaken. Food creates a temporary but false sense of satisfaction. Therefore, when you go without food, you can experience the heightened, urgent sense of your need for the Lord.
As a result you will be eager to chase after Him with all your heart. As you fast from food, your cravings turn toward the One who can cause you to never hunger and thirst. Then you can experience supernatural healing in your body. Fasting will cause the power of new life to spring forth speedily in your body as old cells die off and new ones take their place. Even more importantly, it will drive you toward Jesus. Then your body will produce fruit and never wither because you are staying connected to the vine, which is Christ.
