A straight path

Is your life full of ups and downs? The road we walk in life is not always straight or even. Life can be hard when you’re walking uphill, it can be out of control on the way down, or it’s full of blind turns and bends. Life can be uncertain and unpredictable on this winding uneven road.

But while our life can seem like a rollercoaster at times, the author of Psalm 23 writes that God leads him along “straight paths”, which makes sense if you understand what he’s referring to. You see, in the desert, if a sheep tries to walk straight down a hill, they will often stagger out of control, fall down and hurt themselves. So shepherds use their voice to guide their sheep along narrow “straight paths” that slowly wind around the hill and allow the sheep to travel up and down unharmed. Like these sheep, we need to let our shepherd guide us through the ups and downs of life. But, we can’t be guided if we don’t hear and know His voice. If we’re distracted and not focused on God, it’s easy to stray off His path.
