Baptism in fire
Yesterday we spent some time unpacking water baptism, and its importance in our faith journey. Today we're going to talk about another baptism experience all believers are called to walk through, the Baptism of The Holy Spirit, also known as the Baptism of Fire! [Luke 3:16].
Like Water Baptism, this second baptism, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit also serves a purpose for the Believer. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was given by God to give the believer the power to be effective in their evangelism, move in signs and wonders, and be built up in their relationship with God [Acts 1:8]. The reason the baptism of the Holy Spirit is referred to as the Baptism of ‘Fire’ is that fire is representative of the power of the Holy Spirit. In water baptism, we are immersed in physical water, in Holy Spirit baptism we are immersed in a spiritual fire! The Bible records that when the first believers were baptised in the Holy Spirit they began to speak in ‘tongues’ [Acts 2:4]. Speaking in tongues is a gift God gives believers. Speaking in tongues is a Heavenly prayer language that is personal between you and God. The by-product of speaking in tongues is a life filled with the supernatural power of God, a life of spiritual fire! The baptism in the Holy Spirit can be received by faith through prayer. If you desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit, find a leader at church and ask them to pray with you to receive it!
PRAYER
Jesus, thank You that You want to fill me with Your Spirit. I pray that You would baptise me in fire, that You would fill me with Your power, and that You would release Your gifts into my life through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, Amen.
