Introduction

Today’s reading brings to a close the formal law code found in the book of Deuteronomy by describing the harvest offerings that are to be brought to the LORD. The chapter concludes with God’s promise that the people are to be God’s own.

[Moses said:] “Today the LORD your God commands you to obey all his laws; so obey them faithfully with all your heart.”

Reflect

Today’s reading concludes the presentation of the law that began with chapter 12.  Though chapters 12:1—26:15 strongly emphasize obeying the LORD, the final verses in today’s reading (16-19) also emphasize the people’s relationship with God.  How is that relationship described? What is promised? How would you describe your relationship with God?
