Once upon a time, there were two kings, but these two kings couldn’t have been more different from each other.

One king wanted people to serve him. The other came to serve people.

One king took away the lives of many. The other king came to give life.

One king built a city under his rule, he built roads, buildings, and palaces. He built a Jewish temple, a place for God to be housed. The other king was a temple, He was the living temple of God, God on earth.

One king was afraid that someone would take his place as ruler. The other king didn’t come to rule over the kingdom, He came to be the ruler and king in the hearts of people.

One king lived in a palace wearing a fancy robe and shiny crown. The other king was wrapped in cloth and slept in a manger.

One king’s name was Herod the Great, and the other king’s name was Jesus.

When Jesus was born Herod was the king of the Jewish people. The wise men came to him, and they said they were following a star that meant another king had been born. Herod was so jealous! He didn’t want someone else to become king. King Jesus came to serve people and love them. He gave up His life so we could find life in Him. He was the kind of King people needed, the kind of King we all need in our lives.
