Take a second and think of a way someone encouraged you that you will never forget. The right words at the right time can stick with us forever, can’t they? Interestingly, the person who encouraged you probably didn’t do it by accident. They thought something about you and easily could have kept it to themselves, but they didn’t. They chose to share it! While they likely moved on, you still remember. And that’s because it mattered to you. As the writer of Hebrews tells us, this is the power of encouragement. It’s our job as Christians to actively think of ways to encourage each other. Not to do it by accident or just when you notice something, but instead, to keep our eyes open to look for opportunities. Your words can stick with people in ways that you never expected, but you have to say them first.
Today, look for opportunities to encourage people with your words. Then, be brave enough to step into those opportunities and lift others up.
