WEEK 2, DAY 3—I AM SAVED
When you accept Jesus, you are saved, but what are you saved from? The Bible tells us that the punishment for our sins is death, because sin means separation from God. We are imperfect, and he is perfect. Jesus saved us by taking our punishment and dying for us so that we didn’t have to. This means that now, through believing in Jesus, we can be saved from this death and instead have eternal life in Jesus! This is what’s known as SALVATION.
Sin is anything we do that does not honor God and is outside God’s plan and direction for our life! Sin encompasses everything—our words, our thoughts, and our actions. Adam and Eve’s sin (you can read about it in Genesis 3) introduced sin to the world, and now the brokenness, pain, sickness, and selfishness we see in the world is caused by sin. You may have wondered, “If God is so good, why do bad things happen?” The truth is, bad things happen because God has given us as humans free will and the ability to make our own choices, and this results in us making some bad choices. God gives us free will because he wants a relationship with us—not robots who are forced into loving him.
We are SAVED because of Jesus! No matter how many good things we do or how hard we try, we can never earn our salvation. Salvation comes through Jesus alone—through believing in him! He is the only way to salvation.
