Step 8: Pray for those involved in the porn industry

There is an organization called the ‘Naked Truth Project’, who do an amazing job seeking to open eyes and free lives from the damaging impacts of porn. Their Instagram channel and website seek to open people's eyes to many things when it comes to the impact of pornography. It is easy to forget that when someone engages with pornography, they are not just engaging with an image or a clip or random people. These people (mainly women) are real people, from families and they will have parents, maybe siblings, they are somebody's daughter, somebody's son. They might have come from really complex backgrounds but they are ultimately God’s creation, precious and valuable to Him. We should never forget this.

Remember that the porn industry often preys on vulnerable and marginalized people. But friends, this is the opposite of what Jesus was like and what Jesus did. Jesus treated people with dignity, respect, and love. Just think of Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11) or the story we looked at yesterday of Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well (John 4:1-26) or Jesus’ encounter with the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-30 and also found in Mark 10:17-31 and Luke 18:18-30). We could go on with story after story of Jesus treating the rejects of society, those hated, used, abused, and forgotten with love, and compassion and never as just an individual to be looked at, consumed, and then discarded and forgotten about.

We are invited to do the same. Let's pray for women and men stuck in the porn industry and the many people who never intended to have their videos on the internet. Let’s stop perpetuating the problem and start praying for the freedom of women and men from porn! There are many sad statistics about pornography and its impact, particularly on children, young people, and adults' minds. But sadly, year after year, the watching of and engagement with pornography is a growing activity. Friends, this needs to change!

Based on the top three porn sites average monthly visits, they will receive over 250 BILLION hits on their websites by the end of 2024. To break that stat down, it's more than 32 visits for every person on the planet.

That’s why we cannot stop talking about the impact of porn, because every minute 500,000 people are visiting a porn site.

Change begins when we start to pray… pray for the people involved, including the people who perform in porn, and the people who create the content and distribute it. Pray for their freedom, that God would open their eyes, bring them into the light, and turn to Him.
