The Power of Love: Finding Rest in the Father’s Loveنموونە

The Key to Unspeakable Joy
Not only does God's love take away all fear, it can replace anxiety with unspeakable joy. When we truly understand God's love toward us, then we can live in the power of love.
A few years ago, my paternal grandfather unexpectedly passed away. One evening, as I reminisced about my pappy, I remembered something remarkable: I couldn't think of a single time I saw him upset. He always had a smile on his face.
But the amazing thing is, he had plenty of things he could have complained about! Like the fact that he was partially blind or that his bride wasn't in the best physical condition. Yet every time I talked to him, I always heard him say, "God is AWESOME!"
Where did he find such unwavering joy?
Love.
When my husband and I first got together, I'll be honest I wasn't sure how my family would react. I grew up in a predominantly white area, and my soon-to-be husband was black. My pappy didn't hesitate for a second. He embraced my husband immediately, loving him without reservation.
This was just one of the thousands of ways he chose love. And because he chose love, he walked in joy. His joy wasn't rooted in an easy life but in a deep, unwavering love—love for God and for others. And that's exactly what Jesus calls us to do.
The Connection Between Love & Joy
Jesus gave us two commandments that hold the key to a joy-filled life:
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'Thisis the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' (Matthew 22:36-39, NIV)
When we put God first and truly love others, joy naturally overflows. A heart full of love has no room for fear, worry, or criticism. A critical spirit cannot remain when love overflows in our heart.
Loving one another is a beautiful symphony. And when we live in it, God's perfect love is made complete in us.
Do you want the fruit of joy in your life? Start loving God and loving others.
Take Action:
- Search your heart. Is there someone you need to forgive? A burden of resentment you need to lay down? Don't wait. Bring it before God today and ask Him to help you love as He loves.
- Take action. Ask God to show you one person to bless today. Brainstorm an action step you can take, whether texting a kind word, completing an act of service, or simply reminding someone they are loved; put your love into action today.
