DAY FIVE

FAITH THAT MOVES MOUNTAINS

📖 Scriptures for Study & Reflection:

  • Matthew 17:20 – "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed... nothing will be impossible for you."
  • Zechariah 4:6-7 – "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord Almighty. "What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground."
  • Philippians 1:6 – "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion."

Devotional:

Faith that moves mountains is not about having perfect belief or never doubting—it is about trusting in the power of God rather than our own strength. So often, we see the obstacles in front of us and feel overwhelmed, forgetting that the God who calls us is also the God who equips us.

Someone who understood this well was Zerubbabel, a governor of Judah tasked with rebuilding the temple after the Israelites returned from exile. The city was in ruins, the people were discouraged, and opposition was fierce. From a human standpoint, the task seemed impossible. But in Zechariah 4:6-7, God reminded Zerubbabel that the temple would not be completed by human effort alone but by His Spirit. What looked like a mountain before him would become level ground.

Many of us face "mountains" in our lives—challenges that seem too big to overcome. It could be financial struggles, broken relationships, health concerns, or even personal doubts. Like Zerubbabel, we often feel unqualified or unequipped for the tasks ahead. But the same God who empowered Zerubbabel to finish his work is the same God who is working in our lives today.

Notice that God did not remove the challenges in front of Zerubbabel. Instead, He promised that through His Spirit, what seemed impossible would become possible. Faith does not mean we sit back and wait for the mountain to disappear. It means stepping forward in obedience, trusting that God will move the obstacles as we go.

Jesus said that even faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). That means faith does not have to be big—it just has to be placed in the right hands. The power to move mountains is not in us; it is in the One we trust.

If you are facing a situation that feels too big, take heart. You do not have to figure it all out. Your job is to take the next step in faith, trusting that God will clear the path as you go. Faith is not about knowing the whole journey. It is about believing that God will get you where He has called you to be.

Takeaway & Application:

  • Do not let obstacles stop you from stepping out in faith. Trust that God will move what needs to be moved.
  • Faith requires both belief and action. Move forward, even when you do not see the whole picture.

🙏 Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to step forward in faith, even when the path seems unclear. Help me to trust that You are already making a way. Amen.

✍️ Journal Prompts:

  1. What is a "mountain" in your life right now? How can you step out in faith?
  2. Where have you seen God move in ways you did not expect?
