Day 2 – Consuming vs. Connecting

Have you ever caught yourself reading the Bible with the same mindset you use to check a notification? Or listening to a Christian podcast, replying to messages, and mentally preparing for your next meeting? If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Often, in an attempt to “keep our faith alive” while juggling countless responsibilities, we end up consuming spiritual content… without really connecting to the Source.

In a world that constantly pushes us to be fast and productive, even our spiritual life can fall into autopilot mode. But in John 15:5 (NIV), Jesus doesn’t say, “whoever consumes the most spiritual content will bear fruit.” He says, “Whoever remains in me and I in them will bear much fruit [emphasis added].” It’s not about quantity, but about quality. It’s not about doing more, it’s about staying connected. A living, intentional connection with Christ is what enables us to bear fruit in our work, our decisions, and our professional relationships.

In business, we know that effectiveness comes from clarity and consistency. No strategy works without coherence. The same is true in our spiritual life. Intentionality begins when we stop chasing endless inputs and instead build a spiritual rhythm that’s sustainable, authentic, and truly nourishing for our soul.

There’s no one-size-fits-all formula. For one woman, it might be a short, focused prayer every morning before opening her laptop. For another, it might be reading a verse and writing a quick reflection before starting her day. For someone else, it could be a 10-minute silent walk, simply letting the Holy Spirit speak. The key isn’t in the method—it’s in the intention.

We don’t need a more “productive” faith. We need a deeper connection.

Today’s Practical Step:

  • Choose a specific moment in the day when you know you can pause for at least 5–10 minutes.
  • Choose a simple, sustainable practice that helps you stay connected to Christ (a short reading, a prayer, a journal entry, a moment of silence).
  • Be consistent. Don’t do it to feel “more spiritual.” Do it to stay rooted in your Source.

Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to live out my faith as just another task on my to-do list. Help me experience it as a real, daily relationship with You. Show me how to stay rooted in You today—even in the middle of my activities, decisions, and work. I want to nourish my spirit with intention, because only with You can I bear lasting fruit. Amen.
