THE BIBLE: A LAMP TO MY FEET

Before I (Arielle) turned to the Bible, I was just a girl searching for peace, trying to get by on my own strength. Doing so was painful and mentally exhausting. I always felt lost.

Finally, I came to a dead end in my life. This was when Angela told me we’d start reading the Bible together daily.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” the Gospel of John began. We talked about this, and I soon came to realize the Bible is more than a book. It is the unfolding revelation of Jesus.

When we got to John 8, Angela read Jesus’s words, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (verse 12).

Angela explained that I didn’t have to walk in darkness anymore, because God was the light of life. Tears started streaming down my face.

It was all making sense—the darkness, confusion, and hopelessness I felt. My eyes were opened to the truth for the first time in my life.

Angela looked at me, a smile on her face. “You look different. There’s light in your eyes,” she said.

And she was right; this was the point my life began moving from darkness to light. Though I was still in a time of transition and healing, I knew who I was doing it with. Instead of going by my own strength, I had something to stand on and trust: the Word of God.

We all want to be healed and live in joy. And guess what? We have access to that! It’s all in the Bible.

Dear Father, teach me to live my life as you would have me live it. Help me to read and receive revelation through your Word. Amen.
