Be Strong and Take Courage

“Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!” — Psalm 31:24 AMPC

It’s not always a difficult assignment that causes us to question our strength. Sometimes we’ve faced so many hardships and harrowing situations that we begin to wonder if God is still with us. David understood this tension well.

David was anointed as king, but there was just one problem—Saul was still king. Because of this, David endured many attempts on his life. Even after he finally became king, turmoil arose from within his own family. Yet in all of this, David waited on the Lord. He trusted that God was still present, even when the challenges before him seemed insurmountable.

Strength isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about remembering that you are not alone. David encourages us with this truth in Psalm 31:24: “Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!”

When we face trials, the temptation is to freeze in fear or crumble under pressure. But God calls us to lean into Him instead. That means remembering His past faithfulness, recalling the ways He has already come through, and trusting that He will do it again.

To be strong means to expect God to show up. That expectation fuels our courage and keeps us moving forward. Even when fear whispers that we are not enough, we can cling to the God who is more than enough. He has never left us, and He never will.

Reflection Question:
What past experience of God’s faithfulness can you remember today to fuel your courage and help you keep moving forward?
