All the Feels - Leading Our Emotions

DAY 17: BETRAYED / HURT

Have you ever had the rug pulled out from under you in a relationship? You found out a good friend has been gossiping behind your back or someone you thought you could trust lied right to your face. Your spouse had an affair and now you find yourself in a wake of betrayal, hurt, anger, + deep sadness. Where there once was joy in this relationship, you have broken pieces and are left questioning whether or not it was ever real.

Betrayal wounds us in ways that many of us don’t even have the words to fully articulate. Where do we go from here? “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2, NIV)

In these awful moments, we must first choose, despite all we’re experiencing, to put our trust in God. We can’t get through this without Him and He is the only one who can truly heal the pain of betrayal. From here, we lead our emotions to the feet of Jesus, not picking up the ways of the world, but allowing scripture to guide our response. We aren’t going to get it all right, but if we stick close to God and His Word, He will guide us through.

If you’ve been betrayed or hurt, go to the person and have the conversation to let them know how you’re feeling. Offer forgiveness and ask the Holy Spirit to help discern what the relationship looks like moving forward. Pray about who you can invite to speak into the reconciliation process.

All the Feels - Leading Our Emotions

Feelings. We all have them. Some of us speak them out loud while others silently shut down. As we walk through life experiencing the highs and lows of celebrating, grieving and everything in between—what happens to us and our relationships when we let what we feel drive what we do? How can we lead our feelings instead of being led by them? Let’s learn how to authentically navigate "all the feels" according to God’s Word without allowing our emotions to cloud our experiences. 30 Day-Devo by Nicole Wiencek with Ashley Clement.
