Day 2: Finding God’s Love

You may be familiar with the story of Jesus’ crucifixion. You probably know that He rose again on the third day—and that although the enemy thought he had won, God had the ultimate victory. But for right now, I want you to focus ONLY on the moment we’re reading about today.

The moment when He was nailed to the cross and the blood ran down.
The moment when religious leaders—filled with pride and jealousy—believed they had finally won.
The moment when many who once followed Him were now running from Him and questioning His power and ability.

This moment looked as if all hope was lost. But if we look a little closer—can we see God right here?
Can we recognize His presence in a situation that looked like total defeat?
Can we identify even just one of His attributes? Because if we can find one attribute of God, then even when we can’t feel His presence, the presence of His character reminds us that He is actually right there.

In this moment, we see the love of God on display.
Jesus could have shouted at the corrupt leaders who nailed Him to the cross. He could have called down curses, exposed secrets, embarrassed them. He could have come down from the cross and left humanity to suffer the consequences of our own mess.

But instead—we see patience. We see kindness. We see a response that could only come from the very hand of God.

So, while the onlookers were yelling, “Where is your God now?”—the truth is, God was right there, revealing Himself through love.
They wanted to see His power, but they forgot that power is only one of God’s many attributes.

And sometimes, we do the same thing. We get so focused on looking for one specific attribute of God—His power, His provision, His breakthrough—that we miss the others.

Prayer:
Dear Father God, help us to see You through Your love. Help us recognize Your love even when everything feels dark and hopeless. And when we struggle to see any of Your attributes at all, give us the strength to keep seeking until we find You—and find Your love.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When have you felt like God was absent, only to later realize He was present in a different way than you expected?
  2. Are you looking for God to show up in a specific way right now? Could you be missing other attributes of Him already at work?
  3. What does God’s love look like in a painful or confusing situation you’ve walked through recently?
  4. How does seeing Jesus respond with patience and kindness on the cross change the way you view your own moments of suffering?
  5. Which attribute of God do you need to look for today—besides His power?
