Count It All Joy
When a person applies for a scholarship and is shortlisted to write the examination, the first response is often joy—long before preparation or the difficulty of the exam is considered. Being selected alone feels like an honor. In the same way, out of the countless people on the earth, only a few are truly on God’s full scholarship in every facet of life. These are the children of God, serving Him in spirit and in truth.
Every scholarship comes with examinations. In God’s kingdom, these examinations often appear as temptations and trials. There are entrance tests for new believers and further examinations at every stage where a child of God is due for growth, maturity, or promotion. Temptation is not a sign of rejection; it is often evidence that God is actively at work.
The Apostle James exhorts believers, “Count it all joy when you fall into various temptations” (James 1:2). He further emphasizes, “Blessed is the one who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life” (James 1:12). Scripture reframes temptation—not as something to fear, but as a proving ground that leads to spiritual reward.
When a believer is “shortlisted” for testing, having responded to God’s call through salvation, there is reason for hope and confidence. God does not abandon His children in temptation; He walks with them through it. Choosing joy in the face of testing creates room for the Spirit of God to prevail, overcoming every work of the enemy and strengthening the believer’s soul.
When temptation comes knocking, the call remains clear: count it all joy.
