Faith Hope Love Repeat Mother's Day Devotional by Brandon HeathSample
Day 3 – Love
And I’ll give you whatever I have
Though there’s only one thing you’ll need
And that’s love, I’ll give you my love
It’s really a miracle that God blessed me and my wife, Siebe, by giving us the gift of being parents. The love we feel for our little girl is like nothing we’ve ever felt. To remember that this is only a fraction of how much our Heavenly Father loves us is enough to move me to tears sometimes.
It’s important to remember that He loves us so much that He sacrificed greatly for us, even though we were and are sinners. There’s freedom in embracing this truth. There’s freedom in feeling like even though we’re not perfect parents, God still loves us.
I often pray that our daughter Palmer embraces the freedom that comes from believing that God really loves her. I pray that she always remembers 1 John 4:8 (NIV) which says, “God is love.” When she can embrace this truth, she can live a life of both feeling loved and giving love to others like it says in 1 John 4:21 (NIV) – “And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”
There are times in all of our lives when we feel rejected, unloved, unworthy of love, or left alone in the dark. It breaks my heart to admit this but my Palmer will probably feel these things too. If we can instill into our children that God loves them no matter what, those lonely times may not feel so desperate. They’ll hear our voices in their heads or see the words from their bibles in their minds reminding them that God loves them so much that He has prepared a place at His table for them.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you so much for loving us. Teach us to live lives that show our children that you love them and that we love them too. Amen.
Practice:
If they’re old enough, have a conversation with your children about how much God loves them and how much you love them. Pray with them to thank God for loving them each night for the next week.
