Aftermath: Coming Down The Mountain

DAY 5 OF 14

Faith + Supplements = Discipleship Gains

Have you ever set #healthgoals for yourself? Maybe you wanted to lose some pounds or to gain some muscle or to train hard in order to improve yourself for an upcoming game. If you’re like me, after I reach short term goals, I sometimes stop striving for more and get lazy. I stop investing in my health and unfortunately go back to my old unhealthy habits.

The aftermath of a powerful encounter with God can at times lead us to a place of complacency where we stop striving for more of God simply because we feel comfortable with our present spiritual condition. After a youth ministry summer camp, lots of teens encounter the presence of God in a powerful way and are motivated to continue to seek the Lord. If we are not intentional about investing in our spiritual health, however, we will regress instead of progress.

Many athletes use healthy food supplements like Creatine to help build muscle and help them strive to greater goals. Supplements complete or enhance something else when added to it.

Peter makes it clear that we need a supplement to our faith so that we will not become ineffective as Disciples of Jesus. If you don’t supplement your faith after a powerful encounter with God you will become an ineffective Christian. Think about what God has done for you. If you had a powerful encounter with God are you supplementing to your faith? One excellent way to supplement to your faith is by taking time to read your bible and pray every day. Also stay closely connected to your youth group and youth leader and attend church faithfully. Ask your pastor or youth leader how you can begin to serve and be more involved using your gifting to love and serve others.

Challenge:

  1. How are you supplementing your faith in private?
  2. What can you do be more public with your faith today?
  3. PRAY: Father, You have given me everything that I need to live for You. Help me to trust in that promise and Your power as I live for You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
