Aftermath: Coming Down The MountainSample
Every Time
Moses spent a lot of time on top of mountains, speaking with God. He would climb the mountain, hear from God, and then he would return to the people of Israel who were supposed to be waiting patiently for him to come back with instructions from God.
There was a problem though.
They would not wait patiently. They would go crazy, like small kids in the back seat of the car asking, “Are we there yet?” as soon as they back out of their own driveway. They would chase after destructive patterns, blatantly disobey God, and completely forget about the miracles that they had seen God do in Egypt.
Moses would come down the mountain, and there they would be: worshipping a golden cow that they had created, or some other craziness.
Every.
Time.
And that’s what your relationship with God is going to look like. You will have amazing moments of closeness with God that transform you into someone new.
And then, you will walk into the chaos.
You have to make a decision in those moments:
Will you be defined by what you find at the foot of the mountain?
Or, will you be defined by what God said on the mountain?
The whole reason God does big things in your life during mountaintop experiences is so that you will be prepared for what you find at the foot of the mountain. He is building strength in you while you are on the mountain so that you can be ready to serve everyone you find off of the mountain. He is empowering you, so don’t get discouraged when the foot of the mountain seems crazy. Because He prepares you on top of the mountain to deal with the foot of the mountain.
Every.
Time.
Challenge:
- What has God done in your life during a mountaintop experience? Be specific!
- Who is at the foot of your mountain? What has God done in you that you can share with them?
- PRAY: Father, thank You for the mountaintop. When I come off of the mountain, remind me that You have already prepared me for whatever I find there. Amen.
