Becoming Thirsty

DAY 2 OF 6

Resolve to Seek the Lord

The Bible mentions at least five situations in which a resolution was made that had a transforming effect on the person or the situation. As you encounter each one, look for the passion to pursue, the courage to seek, and the desire to become ever thirstier.

It just might change your life.

The first situation that can lead our hearts toward a more passionate pursuit of Jesus involves a king named Jehoshaphat. The king was suddenly and without provocation, threated by three other kingdoms. They were decidedly “a great multitude” compared to his army. That nugget of realism mixed with having to battle on his own turf for the first time caused our beloved king alarm.

When the bad guys were approaching, According to 2 Chronicles, King Jehoshaphat resolved to seek the Lord rather than trusting in himself or what man could offer. This was not the, “And if you have an extra hand, we would appreciate it” type prayer. The Amplified Version expresses his resolve or his determinedness as born out of this King’s vital need for seeking.

Is seeking God a vital need in your life? Are you relying on Him for what you need, how to direct your day, your relationships, or that which keeps you in a terrified state?

Jehoshaphat also declared a fast for himself and all the people. The King of Judah was communicating their need for God over physical sustenance. Have you ever wondered why? Why this corporate call to fast? Why not do or require something else?

There is no definitive answer, but it was certainly a way to bring everyone together. Regardless of social status, abilities or maturity, just about anyone could give up something for a set period of time. Maybe that’s all it was. If so, mission accomplished because they did. And God acted.

These are the resolutions that birth our passionate pursuit for Jesus.

Today, what would happen in your life if you resolved, as your VITAL NECESSITY, to inquire of the Lord—about anything or everything; and found a way to fast something...somehow?

If you could resolve to seek Him in one particular area of your life today, what would it be?

And if you find yourself in a place like this king—who needed God to move in and through his life, is there something you could fast for a set period of time?
