Becoming ThirstySample
Resolve to Walk Toward Your Jerusalem
When the time of Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion was near, we learn from the Gospels that He was aware of the timeline. Jesus knew what was coming and what had to occur. He understood His role. He’d been tempted to opt out of it by the Devil, himself; yet passed this testing with flying colors. Jesus is THE MAN. He IS the KING! He is the One who rightly rides on the white horse in the end. Jesus prevails over all!
But before all that can transpire the Son of Man must endure the sorrow and suffering. Jesus knew the cost of victory for you and for me. In fact, He embraced it.
“As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Luke 9:51
Our Savior recognized God’s call on His life. His entire purpose was to do His Father’s will, even when it was beyond difficult. Therefore He resolved to walk in that direction.
Most of us, if not all of us, will have demanding and even impossible circumstances to face in our next seasons ahead. God may call you to walk toward hard, arduous places and even through the proverbial darkness– having no clue what to do or how to do it. The temptation is not to walk toward our Jerusalems. We would prefer running from them to walking toward them.
But we could choose differently.
What if our prayer became:
Lord, I’m afraid. The task before me is hard. I don’t want to do it. The obstacles are too great and the people too fierce! Only You can help me. But I resolve, with all of my heart, to walk toward your will for my life– and not to run from it just because it looks impossible. This time, I will resolutely set out in the direction you call me toward.
As we move into this next new era of life, I pray you keep drinking in the things of God even when it tastes like you’re swallowing dirt. I pray you will seek truths found in Scripture, taking them in even when it feels like chewing gravel. And that you will do whatever it takes to move toward these personal resolutions even when it seems pointless and insignificant. For this is the little marked path toward becoming thirsty.
