One of the bizarre things I discovered when visiting Yellowstone National Park in the USA recently were the many geysers we came across! (A geyser is a spring characterized by intermittent discharge of water ejected turbulently and accompanied by steam - Wikipedia)

These fountains of boiling water and steam shooting out of the ground are spectacular. Most are unpredictable, in fact the world’s largest, Steamboat Geyser is very unpredictable and recently began to erupt to the surprise of many scientists.

The most famous Geyser is called “Old Faithful” because it is so predictable. It erupts every 44-125 minutes and scientists can predict each eruption to within 10 minutes, so throughout the year, thousands of visitors gather to watch the spectacular eruptions that only last a few minutes.

We joined the throng of spectators on the specially built grandstands and waited for the Old Faithful Geyser to erupt. Sure enough, as they had predicted, steam and boiling water began shooting out of the ground in the most spectacular way to the applause and delight of us all.

Geysers or Hot Springs occur because water filters down through the earth, until it meets rock heated by magma. The geothermal heated water begins to boil, causing steam and water to shoot out of the ground. It made me think of the analogy in Proverbs 2:

Wisdom is a gift from a generous God,

and every word he speaks is full of revelation

and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.

For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom 

made accessible to his godly lovers. Prov 2:6, 7a (TPT)

Wisdom to live this life is packed into God’s Word. If we would allow it to filter through our minds, go deep into our hearts where the Holy Spirit can bring it to the boil, revelation and understanding will gush out of us, spreading all over our lives.

I want to become like Old Faithful, taking God’s Word, meditating upon it filling my mind, filtering down into my heart and spirit. The fire of the Holy Spirit transforming God’s Word into revelation and understanding that will pour forth into my decisions, ministry, marriage, finances, relationships, in fact, every area of my life.

God’s Word, the Bible is a warehouse of wisdom! Let us fill our minds and hearts with His words in the coming days from the storehouse of the Book of Proverbs.
