One Heart

DAY 2 OF 8

One heart for God and His mission

Micah 6:8 "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

When we discover the enormity of Christ’s love for us, we desire to share this good news with everyone. It’s like ice-cream, you can’t keep it to yourself. When we see how good the Father is, we want all to awaken to that truth. This is the beauty of God’s mission – everyone is included!

John 5:15 reminds us that we are never alone but that we are intimately and organically united with Him. We are dead to ourselves, but alive in Him. Therefore, we produce abundant fruit, separated from Him we cannot produce anything. In this intimate relationship we partner with God to see our communities transformed. Our hearts pray differently when we’re united like this – we ask: God, what is your pleasure? What is your heart? How can I partner with you today?

Just like Jesus was sent out by the Father to do good and reveal the Father, Christ has commissioned us to reveal Him to our families, neighbourhoods and work places. We have the incredible privilege of being on mission with God and to be empowered by Him for this mission.

Reflect

  • What are the implications of Acts 1:8 and Micah 6:8 in day-to-day life?
  • In what ways am I joining God on mission today?

Prayer

  • Pray for our congregations today: that we would  continually remind ourselves of the unity we need with Christ. (John 15:5)
  • Pray for people to step out in mission as they discern God’s heart (John 20:21)
