The Second Birth: New BelieversSample
All Things Are New!
You may not look any different on the outside, but that doesn’t mean you’re the same person you were before you asked Jesus to be Lord of your life. Your circumstances may appear to be the same, but now you have all of heaven on your side. As you take steps to develop your relationship with God and put His Word to work in your life, you will begin to see change in every area.
God’s plan for us as new believers is to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus (2 Peter 3:18). Participating regularly in Bible study, prayer, witnessing, and other “spiritual disciplines” is essential. Public baptism is an important step every new believer should take. Through baptism, you are making everyone aware of your new status as a member of God’s redeemed family.
The Bible is distinct from every other book because its author is God Himself. God’s Word is soul food—it provides you with spiritual nourishment. You will grow by reading it, meditating upon it, and faithfully following its instructions. This time is essential to spiritual growth and maturity. Developing a love for the Scriptures requires a decision, understanding it as your duty, and, soon, finding this time with God has become a delight. In God’s Word, you will find solutions for the problems you face in life. As we read it, our core values are altered, peace enters our spirits, and joy wells up within our hearts. If you want to be spiritually healthy, meditate on the Scriptures!
