Worship
Most of the time, we label the portion of our gatherings where we sing as “worship.” But in truth, worship is more than just singing songs at church.
Worship is our response to all that God has done for us. He saved us, changed our identity and has given us His Spirit! Jesus gave it all for us on the cross. It is for this reason that we choose to honor him by living a life of worship or devotion to Him.
There are many ways we can worship God. Here are a few of them.
- Thanking God for all that he has done is a form of worship. We can do this through songs or prayer. This can be done with a gathering at church or by yourself with some worship music.
- Giving generously to the work of God through your local church is another act of worship. It shows God that you value his kingdom above your own.
- Offering your time and energy to serve others is another way you can worship God. Using your gifts and talents to love others is a great way to show love to God.
The truth is this, every part of our lives can be an act of worship if we do it for the Lord. Going to work can be an act of worship if you have the right heart about it.
Colossians 3:23 tell us, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,"
Whatever you do can become worship if you are doing it for the Lord! Worship is about living a lifestyle of devotion to God.
Consider how you can create a consistent heart of worship in your life. One simple way to do this is to prioritize corporate worship with your church family. There are so many things vying for our attention and time every weekend. But the One who should always get the first of our time is Jesus! Make a commitment to be faithful to serve and worship with your church family every single week. In fact, make it a non-negotiable.
Let everything you do flow out of a response of worship to Jesus for all that he has done for you!
Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
