How do we know we are saved?
As we begin to live lives that are transforming more into the image of Christ, specific characteristics begin to be evident in us. Our hearts change, our demeanor and actions also start to change. This "fruit" comes as the Holy Spirit works and changes the way we live. In the natural world, "fruit" is the result of a healthy plant producing what it was designed to produce. In the Bible, the word "fruit" is often used to describe a person's outward actions that result from the condition of the heart.
Good fruit is that which is produced by the Holy Spirit. The fruit of His Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22) Our words, actions, character, and values will begin to look like Jesus, and His behavior while here on earth.
As one means of guaranteeing His promises to those who have received Jesus, God has sealed us in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. Every believer is given the very same Holy Spirit of God the moment we trust in Jesus.
When we say yes to Jesus, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our lives. Life in Jesus is different because the Spirit of God is now within us. He is there to empower and equip us, and The Holy Spirit is our Helper and Advocate. He protects and encourages us. He also guarantees our inheritance in Jesus Christ.
