Discerning God’s Will Through Prayer

Prayer is not some magical means to discerning God’s will in your life. But God does guide our hearts as we pray. God does not reveal the future but He gives us wisdom to make the right decisions. If God does not reveal the future, then what should I pray for? 

Pray for illumination of your heart and mind so you will know God’s Word and apply it in your life. 

Pray for wisdom to be able to make the right choices and decisions. 

Pray for grace to trust God during uncertain times and to obey Him during challenging times. 

Pray for your heart that God will guard it against sinful and selfish desires and that you will remain humble and teachable. 

Pray for discernment and courage. 

Pray that you will submit to His will even when it is contrary to your plans or makes you uncomfortable. 

Pray with an attitude of worship knowing that God is in absolute control of your life. Pray with an attitude of repentance knowing our tendency to not trust God. Pray with an attitude of thanksgiving before and after the outcome. 

Lack of prayer shows a lack of dependence on God. It is a deeper heart issue of self-reliance and control. Make prayer a lifestyle. It will reveal a heart that is humble and resting in Christ.
