DAY 16 OF 92

He Works All Things

Ruth 1-4

The Book of Ruth is just as much about Ruth as it is Naomi. Naomi suffered the traumatic loss of both her husband and sons. Yet Naomi’s enduring faith in God inspired Ruth to demand to stay by her side.

Through their loss and pain, God had a plan of redemption in store. He was working all things together for good (Rom 8:28). God meets those who trust in Him where they are and consistently provides more than enough to those who are in need. God used Boaz’s generosity in the field and the extra scoops of grain at the threshing floor to provide food for Naomi and Ruth. God also used Boaz’s character and status as Guardian-Redeemer to marry the widowed Ruth, and in doing so, became the care that the widowed Naomi also needed.

Those are just the short-term needs that God filled through these believers, but God had an even greater plan in place–for Boaz and Ruth to carry forward the lineage of Christ! We also have a purpose that we are called to. Through the story of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz, we can be reminded and reassured that God is working for the good of those who love Him in ALL things. The Spirit enables us to accomplish His will. May we be more aware of His presence and power, and praise God for the way He has been working for the good of those who love Him.

Lord, help me to be aware that you are always at work and for me to trust in that work.

Family Connection: Ruth was not an Israelite, like most others in the line of Jesus. She was a foreigner, from a different country called Moab. Talk with your family about how God loves everyone, no matter what color, gender, or race they are- everyone has been created with love and a purpose. Sing “Jesus Loves The Little Children” with your family.
