DAY 89 OF 92

Fear or Faith

Proverbs 29:25

Here we have before us two wholly incompatible options and paths. Incompatible because the are on opposing ends of a narrow hallway, and to face one is to turn your back to the other. Either you will fear man, and all that entails, or you will trust in the LORD. You can go back and forth, but you cannot have both at the same time. Also, each is a path that leads somewhere. The first to a snare or a trap, the second is to be lifted out of harms way.

At one end of the hallway where we can see clear details, we see immediate solutions to temporary problems. We see people who seem to defy the odds and accomplish the impossible, all on their own. People that portray the strength we lack and the knowledge we desire, and the offer that all this could be ours. But what you can’t see are stories of a satisfying end.

At the other end of the hallway where the details are not as clear, we see a Father asking our heart to trust. Here we find rest for our weariness, comfort for our mourning, worth for our worthlessness, strength for our failings, and a Savior from all our sin. We may not know how He will work things out with the messes we’ve made, but when we look to Him can know He has us in His grip.

Lord, please give me a heightened sensitivity to your Spirit’s work in my life. Help my mind to recall the truths of your Word that I may see the snares that could sinfully entangle my life. When I do become entangled, help me to recall your promises and repentance that you graciously offer your children.

Family Connection: Fear or Faith. As a family talk about what scares you and talk about ways we can trust God to help us with our fears.
