DAY 3 OF 9

Who were Abraham’s descendents?

The Israelites. They were God’s chosen people to be a blessing to the world. Through them, God’s promised Savior would come.

After Adam and Eve sinned and the world became a broken place, God promised to rescue the world through Abraham’s family. God asked Abraham to leave his country and to go to an unknown place. He promised Abraham that He’d bless him and make him a blessing to others.

God also promised Abraham that his family would become more numerous than the stars of the sky. But do you know what’s crazy about that promise? At the time, Abraham was old and childless. And his wife Sarah was well past child-bearing age.

But Abraham trusted God and believed what He said. And Abraham and his wife had a child named Isaac, and so began the fulfilment of God’s promise.

But who was in Abraham’s family, and how did God’s promise pass through them?

Abraham had Isaac, and Isaac had Jacob. Then Jacob had twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. Now the prophets had promised that out of the tribe of Judah would come the Savior of all the world. And just as He said it would, from Abraham’s descendants, God’s promised Savior, Jesus, came!

Jesus Himself had said that God’s salvation would come through Israel. And that’s exactly what happened.

Spend some time today thanking God for the promises He’s been faithful to fulfill in your own life. And ask Him to help you trust and believe in Him, even when it feels hard and the future isn’t clear.
