Fear Busters (Week 6)

DAY 2 OF 7

Day Two -  He Makes Us Brave

Hello mini FearBusters! We hope you're enjoying following our journey with the FearBusters! Remember you can watch this week's episode on YouTube!  We are on such an exciting journey with the Fear Busters so far and we have learnt so much!

We are looking at Psalm 23 - Can you remember what a Shepherd is?  A shepherd is someone that looks after and takes care of sheep.  God is our Shepherd; we are His sheep. God looks after us and takes good care of us!  Today we are learning that He Makes Us Brave

READ:

Our Bible story of the week is The Lord is my Shepherd. You can read this story in the Beginners Bible (pages 190-193) or in Psalm 23. Today we are going to look at the second bit of this Psalm and learn that He makes us Brave.

In verse 4 it says “Even though I walk through the darkest valley (scariest time), I will not be afraid.”

When we are scared or unsure it can sometimes feel like we are in a ‘dark valley.’ But even when you are in this place, you don’t need to be afraid because God is with you. He makes you Brave!

Verse 4 goes on to say, “You are God, you are with me.”

God is always with us - we can be sure that whatever happens around us or our family and friends, God is with us!  Even if we don’t feel or see God, we know that He is with us!

Verse 4 finishes with “Your shepherd’s staff and rod comfort me.”

When a Shepherd wants the sheep to walk to the right place, he uses a long stick called a ‘staff’. This means that the shepherd can reach the sheep far away from him and he can gently tap them to help them get back on the right path.  That's what God does with us, He gently helps us to stay on the right path, through listening to His voice, praying about things, reading the Bible, our grown ups that know Jesus,  and the teaching we have at church.

ASK:

How does God help you to be brave?

We would love you to share some of these things.  Remember to ask your grown up to send us a photo on Instagram or Facebook.

REMEMBER:

The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need. He gives me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water. He gives me new strength. For the good of his name, he leads me on paths that are right. Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid because you are with me. Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me. You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies. You pour oil of blessing on my head. You give me more than I can hold. Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23)

SAY - FEARBUSTER PRAYER:

You are bigger than my fears. You wipe away my tears. I have a voice to pray, you teach me what to say. I am brave because of you! This sickness just won't do, we tell it now to QUIT. We've had enough of it!
