Use Your Gifts

As Australians, we don’t like to boast about things. We are all equal, and no one likes another person who jumps up and says, "Look at how awesome I am," unless they really are, such as athletes, actors, singers, and the like. But even then we don’t want posers!

The Bible tells us that we are created in God’s image (Gen. 1:26–27) and as such God has given us gifts and abilities. We need to recognize that He has done that and thank Him for them. God has given us these gifts and talents and we have a responsibility to use them for His glory as faithful stewards of what He has given.

There are lots of different ways we can do this. Maybe it’s being up at the front or it’s getting alongside people. Perhaps it’s phone calls and follow-up, or making meals, or it could be just looking out for people. You might play a musical instrument or be a good organizer or administrator. You can use your gifts to serve others.  

We are encouraged as part of God’s people to nurture and build His community, knowing the gifts that God has given are for their benefit. We want to serve our community in humility for the benefit of God’s glory and kingdom. 

Let me encourage you to look carefully at your life and your abilities. Seek to honor God in a manner that shows Him you love Him through the way you use your gifts and talents for the benefit of His kingdom and His people and His community.
