WHO ARE YOU?

DAY 3 OF 14

Okay; confess. How many times have you needed to burgle your own home because you have forgotten your keys? It’s so frustrating, isn’t it? The door before you remains resolutely and obstinately shut. The very object that should allow your entry now bars your way.

For millennia, humankind has had a conviction that god, or gods, exist. The order, complexity and codes embedded in nature and the cosmos persuade them. But no matter how many religions were invented, none gave access to God. Humankind was left wallowing in confusion, fear and ignorance – locked out from God.

Then God stepped in. He sent his son to pay the price for our sins that would otherwise keep us separated from him. What we could not do, God did. Jesus opened the way. He is the door (or gate) through which we can now go to find our home in God.

So, when Jesus says in his third “I am” saying, “I am the gate,” he is giving you a remarkable invitation – the invitation to enter.

I invite you to do so.

Prayer

Loving Father, when we could not reach you with our religions, you reached out to us. When we couldn’t find our way safe home, you sent your son to lead us there. Through his sacrifice, he made a way when there was no way. I thank you with all my heart.
