YOU NEVER FAIL ME 

…if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.

2 Timothy 2:13 

The song You Never Fail Me is a bold declaration. Yet, sometimes those words can even feel a bit naive. Have you ever had an experience where you felt like God failed you? Another way of framing that question could be, have you ever been disappointed? The answer is almost certainly, yes. We all experience disappointment, pain, suffering, and moments where life does not go the way we want. Did God fail us in those moments? 

2 Timothy 2:13 says that even ‘…if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.’ This verse refers to God’s character. Paul is telling Timothy that even when we aren’t strong enough to believe in God, He never stops believing in us. He cannot. God’s essence is love, which means He will always choose to fight for us, to love us unconditionally and to stand with us in our pain. 

That’s what it means to say that God ‘never fails me.’ It’s not that life will always go the way we want or expect. God never promised us that. It means that no matter what happens in life God, will be there with us to the end. 

ACTION

Reach out to someone in your life who is going through a difficult time. Bring your hope for a better future in prayer to God. Don’t promise them that everything will turn out exactly as they want, but find courage and peace in the knowledge that God will be with you and with them no matter what.

 

PRAYER

God, thank you for always loving me. Thank you for being so gracious and so patient with me even when I lose my faith or stumble. Help me stay rooted in your love. Let your love be the foundation of my life so I can withstand any trial, failure or disappointment. Thank you for the promise of your presence. May it be my shelter and source of peace, always. Amen.
