Suppressing the truth
The apostle Paul is writing about God’s wrath against “all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth”. He says that creation clearly shows God’s eternal power and divine nature. That should already be enough information for people to worship their Creator, even though nature does not reveal as many details about God as the Bible does. But even these basic truths that were “clearly perceived” by all humanity, were suppressed and exchanged for a lie. Therefore, people who do not serve the Lord, are “without excuse”. God is angry because they worship idols instead of their Creator, and thereby deprive Him of the honor He is worthy of. By exchanging the truth for a lie, people reject God’s rightful claims on their lives.
These verses make clear that suppressing the truth about God and creating “your own truth”, is a “foolish” thing to do. It invites God’s wrath, which in turn causes eternal death.
How much do you know about God? Do you accept him as your Lord, or do you suppress the truth that has been revealed to you?
