Out of the wilderness, shepherds were taking care of a flock of sheep where they would stay up all day and all night watching and protecting the sheep from predators. Now, shepherds weren’t fancy or rich. They were poor and were strangers to others. The people would look down on them, despise them, and not like to get near them. The shepherds were not very social people; they stayed with their group and cared for their flock. For a very long time, the Israelites had been waiting and seeking hope, just like the shepherds who felt left out. They wanted to feel loved and seen. One night, the Angels of the Lord appeared to them and told them the Good News that the Messiah was born. What was so unique is not only did the angels tell them the Good News, they appeared to them first because they knew they were waiting and seeking hope and love from others.
The unknown is that people still have not yet heard the Good News, but they still seek hope and love, just like the shepherds. If you know someone who seeks hope and love, you can reach out to them and share the Good News of a special baby who came to save the world.
