DAY 5 OF 7

Stuck

Starting in late 2019, a crazy and terrible thing happened. A virus called COVID-19 invaded our world and began making some people sick. To keep the virus from spreading too much, everyone was told to stay at home as much as possible. Movie theaters, restaurants, and playgrounds were closed. Churches shut down. And instead of going to school, kids talked to their teachers and classmates and did their schoolwork on video calls from home. For a lot of that time, we were all stuck at home. And if we did go out, we wore a mask over our mouths and noses.

There were so many things we couldn’t do. Even ordinary things, like go to a friend’s house, visit grandparents, or head out to practice. And while it was so easy to focus on all the things we couldn’t do, there were so many good and wonderful things we could do. Things like hanging out and playing games with our family, sleeping in, making phone calls to friends—and thanking God for having a home to be stuck in!

That’s the trouble with trouble. It likes to steal your attention so that you only think about the trouble you’re stuck in. There’s a cure for that, though. Think about good things instead. It takes some work and some determination. But no matter how tough the day has been, you can always find something good to be thankful for. And when you do, you won’t feel quite so stuck in your trouble.

Devotion

Lord, when I'm feeling stuck, show me all the good things I have to be thankful for. Amen.
