Come To Me

Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30

Jesus, love like Yours is what our souls yearn for. Your love sees us struggling under the weight of our burdens and gently offers to carry them for us. Your love intimately knows the nature of these burdens and compassionately desires to free us from the pain of them. Your love understands our fear and anxiety and willingly takes it into Yourself and gives us peace. Your love doesn’t wait until we are lovable, have it all together, or are even likable, but says, ‘I love you as you are.’

Your love comes to find us when we’re hiding and feeling sad and ashamed. Your love knows the pain we have caused to those we love the most and ourselves, and yet loves us still. Your love weeps with us when our grief feels dark and lonely. Your love patiently and graciously restores our faith when ours is worn down. Your love lovingly and tenderly encourages us to drop our guard and trust You. Your love sees how we have pridefully and stubbornly held onto things we should have obediently surrendered to You, and yet patiently loves us while gently guiding us to lay them on Your altar. Your love sees us walking in the same sin and yet draws us to Yourself in love and forgiveness. Your love tenderly whispers that You love us anyway, as much as ever, and nothing we can do will ever change that. Your love frees us and says, I don’t remember anything of your sin when you repent. Your love reaches out a strong hand to lift us, gaze tenderly into our eyes, and take our burdens from us. Your love is like no other - complete, intimate, satisfying, and never-ending.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that as we look into Your love-filled, gentle eyes, You enfold us in Your perfect love and help us to give You our burdens. And as we surrender them to You, we find rest for our souls as You promised. “Just as I am - of that free love…O Lamb of God, I come”.
