I Will Give You Rest

Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Jesus, Your grace and love-filled invitation comforts and draws us to Yourself. It wraps its kind arms around us and whispers an encouragement to share the weight of it all with You. As we respond in our pain, anxieties, wounds, or shame - Your merciful love and compassion tend our burdens, wounds, and sin and intimately restores, heartens, and heals us as only You can.

Jesus, as we see You, we think of Your words in Luke 10:33-34 of a Samaritan who came upon a Jewish man suffering from being severely beaten and robbed, and how the Samaritan compassionately bound up his wounds and cared for him.

Jesus, You are our Good Samaritan. You are ever-present and willing to kneel and come to us. You see and understand all of us fully; past, present, and future. You require no explanation, no defense, not even a single word from us because You see us. You have tender compassion for us. You pour Your Holy Spirit and Your Precious Healing Blood on our wounds, fears, concerns, and needs, and You bind them up. You carry us and bring us to a safe and peaceful place. You take care of us. As You enfold us in this unsurpassed love, we find rest in You as You promised.

Your rest, Jesus, is like no other. It is complete, satisfying, and refreshing. It brings relief and supplies comfort and peace from the storms we have faced, are going through, and the ones that lie ahead. Your rest supplies continual love, joy, and life in all fullness.

Your rest is You. You gave Yourself for us, our Saviour. You give Yourself to us, our Friend. You will eternally give Yourself to us, our Great High Priest. Jesus, You are the great I Am, Supreme over all creation. Everything has been created through You, and You existed before everything else began, and You hold all creation together. Jesus, help me trust You fully in the knowledge I have been created through You, and You hold me together. You supply my every need, and You are my all-in-all.

Jesus, touch our eyes that we may see You more clearly. Touch our hearts and souls that we may know You and more fully receive Your love. Through this, Lord Jesus, grant us eternal rest in You.

Find rest my soul in Christ alone. Know His power in quietness and trust. I will be still and know that You are God.
