Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 33 OF 35

Prophets and Promises

Pray…

Heavenly Father, thank you for being so faithful to us. Thank you, Jesus, for your consistency and the fact that you don’t change. Holy Spirit, I am dependent on you. Use this time to help me follow you more closely. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

25“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. Ezekiel 36:25-27 NLT

Consider…

Most of the time, the prophets, of whom Ezekiel was one, called out God’s people for the ways that they were getting it wrong. See, God formed the nation of Israel and filled the temple with His presence so that they could represent Him in a special way to the rest of the world.

But they, like us, didn’t always do a great job of that. So prophets would come to remind the people of who they were, what they were called to do, and what would happen if they continued to stray from their purpose and calling.

But sprinkled all throughout the prophets’ warnings, are messages of hope like we just read. Reminders from God of who He is and what He has promised.

He promised to put His Spirit in us to help us follow Him. And that’s exactly what He did.

Practice…

The week’s memory verse shows us the fulfillment of the promise God made in Ezekiel. He has given us His Spirit to form us into His image and help us represent Him to the rest of the world. Think about the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life as evidence of God’s trustworthiness while you practice your verse today.

Listen…

Set your timer for 5 minutes.

Lean into your time of listening by thanking God for keeping His promises.

Ask Him to speak to you and show you a promise He wants you to hold onto.

When you get distracted, come back to Jesus by meditating on 2 Corinthians 3:17-18.

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
