Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture MemorizationSample

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 29 OF 35

God’s Dwelling Place

Pray…

God, thank you for your presence. I know that when I call upon your name you are here. Make me more aware of your presence with me and in me today. I love you and trust you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16 NLT

Consider…

Have you ever been sitting at school and suddenly felt a strong urge to do something that you normally wouldn’t do? Maybe it’s giving another student money for lunch, inviting someone to church, or sitting and eating at a new table with a different group of people than you would normally hang out with.

It might be weird, but consider the idea that the prompting you feel might be the Holy Spirit guiding you. See, when we begin following Jesus, we receive that gift of the Holy Spirit. That gift is the literal, tangible presence of God living in us. God’s Spirit in us is how He chooses to mold us and shape us to look more like Jesus.

And as God lives within us and guides us to become more like Him, we will begin to feel His peace. Philippians 4:9 says, “Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”

What would it look like to respond to promptings from the Holy Spirit? What would be different about your life if that was how you operated on a daily basis? How would the people around you be influenced? What can you do today to begin to allow God’s Spirit to guide you?

Practice…

This week as you at school, with your family at home, or out in the community be aware of how the Holy Spirit is guiding you and respond to Him. He may prompt you to share the verse you are memorizing with someone in your life. Lean in and be ready to do whatever He asks.

For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NLT

Listen…

Set a timer for 5 minutes.

Lean into your listening by reflecting on the Scripture you are memorizing.

Ask God to speak to you and show you how He wants to guide you, direct you, and reveal Himself to you.

Thank Him for the ways He has already done that.

When you get distracted, come back to Jesus by thanking Him for sending His Spirit to you to help you.
