Uncommen: Escape Room

DAY 4 OF 5

Power Enough to Leave the Room

"No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." - John 10:18.

I used to have a friend who was like a machine when it came to math. If you just showed him a list of numbers, he'd have the answer in his head before you could enter the third number in the calculator.

When "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" first came on television, a guy made it all the way to the last question without using a single lifeline. Then, he indicated his desire to "Phone a friend," a lifeline that allowed him to call someone and ask for the answer. The call was placed to his father, but instead of asking the final question, he said, "Dad, I'm about to become a millionaire." He proceeded to win.

I tell you that to show you that some people have off-the-chart talent. Time to God size this again and look at the power of Jesus. Our scripture verse gives us a small glimpse into His power as He states, "I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again." Kind of like Babe Ruth calling his shot for the homerun.

Not only was Jesus willing, but He had the power to leave the room. So that's how we got to our Escape Room analogy. I was sitting in church taking notes, and it struck me that we tend to overlook the power of Jesus because of His humility and humbleness.

  • Jesus was willing
  • Jesus knew the challenge
  • Jesus was wise enough to overcome
  • Jesus had the power to leave

He didn't need anyone to come to help Him escape the room. He didn't even need the rock rolled away. But the tomb on that Easter Sunday was indeed empty.

He has Risen...He has Risen indeed!

Uncommen Questions:

Do you ever contemplate the power of Jesus? Or do you spend more time on his other attributes?

If you had to describe Jesus in five words, would powerful be in the mix?

Uncommen Challenge:

I challenge us all to remember that Jesus is all-powerful and while He may have come the first time as a sacrifice. He will come again as the KING OF KINGS.
