A Prayer LifeSample
How people pray
Four men went to church to pray.
The first man stood up and prayed this prayer to himself "I don't know what I'm doing here, after all, didn't Jesus say that God knows our needs, even before we ask for them? Why should I pray? In my opinion, prayer seems insignificant!"
The second man stood up and prayed to himself, "This world is a world ruled by eternal laws. How could I dare to approach God and ask Him to change one of the rules in this universe to align it with my wishes? In my opinion, that prayer makes no sense!"
The third man stood up and prayed to himself, "I think it will be too dangerous both emotionally and mentally if I run to God with my difficulties. I have to be a real man who can solve all difficulties by myself. I think prayer is unhealthy and immature!"
The fourth man hit his chest and said, “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner – and change me!” (Luke 18:13)
Reflection
We need to humble ourselves before the Lord in our prayer because prayer shows our dependence on God. Do we depend on God when we pray to Him or treat prayer as a tradition? Let us always guard our hearts and depend on the Lord.
Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays. (Soren Kierkegaard)
