Awaken Thru Coma

DAY 3 OF 7

Devotional 3 – Let Go of Me

Prayer – Heavenly Father, humbly, I praise You.

(Repeat that where you are…. but Out Loud.)

I praise You. I want to honor You. I want to learn how to experience the life that You have for me. Holy Spirit, I invite You to help me. Teach me. Convict me.

Please.

As we enter the 3rd devotional, I’d like to take a second and warn you. Do not just read these devotionals. I know that there are some who are looking for hope, life, and peace. Some who need change to take place. If you’re one of them, then please know these devo’s are not written from a place of speaking “at you” with no understanding. For myself and for Chris, there have been times where we have had struggles. There have been times of finding ourselves in the spiritual coma we have been talking about. But that is not where we have chosen to stay.

As we begin, read this word of encouragement from 1 Peter, chapter 5. It’s a good reminder that you’re not alone and that if you choose to change, and are willing to fight for it, you will get stronger and grow.

“Resist him (the devil), standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1 Peter 5:9-10

On previous days, we looked at ways of ending up in a spiritual coma and we also talked about spiritual diseases, injuries and poisons.

As we looked at coming out of that coma and beginning to have awareness/consciousness again, we saw how Jesus demonstrated for us literally by cracking open the tomb fully alive. And how that is exactly what we should do spiritually.

The word repent in Greek is the word: “Metanoeō

I grew up thinking this word was saying that I needed to go beat myself up in a corner somewhere. I needed to be deeply upset with myself and ponder how much of a sinner I was or how stupid I was for doing whatever it was I did. This isn’t necessarily what God was saying.

Please allow me to tell you the Greek meaning.

Metanoeō

  1. to change one’s mind
  2. to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend (revise) with abhorrence (a feeling of repulsion) of one’s past sins

My simple definition (I propose to you) for repentance:

  • to change one’s mind or way of thinking, to a corrected way of thought

The way we think has such an important role to play in our life. It’s our perspective. Our paradigm. The way we see the world around us and…the way we see ourselves in it.

How do you think about or see yourself?

*If you’re journaling through these devotionals (or just have paper and a pen) take a few moments and answer those questions. Again, be honest.

[Remember, what you put in determines what you’ll get out of these devotionals.]

Here’s an example to help get you started:

  • Use statements or make a list.
  • I, ______ see myself…

The way you see yourself, can have huge effects on our lives. Not just our daily routines, but also longer-term effects.

In just a moment I’d like for you to please go listen to Chris’ 3rd song on Coma: Let Go of Me.

With the idea of repentance; changing the way you think, focus not on the beat or the cadence of the song. Rather dig into the words.

Listen to the hook, the verses, what’s an underlying theme you’ll hear? Chris’ and Caleb’s changing of their plans.

Changing their mindsets about their life. Towards their life.

Repentance.

Listen to Let Go of Me now.

Could you hear it? Both of these men shared having dreams. Having their plans.

Where did those plans come from?

From the times when they were in a coma…

You see, at the time they are reflecting on, you can hear how they were following their own selfish desires. Their own vain pursuits. Chasing after the life that their perspective/mindset pointed them to. Both men found this to be a stomach that they could never satisfy.

Those pursuits never will.

Your heart will never be satisfied by popularity.

Not everyone will always like you.

Your heart will never be satisfied by your title or possessions.

Both can be lost, stolen or destroyed.

So, in closing for this devotional, I ask you 4 honesty-seeking questions.

  1. What are you pursuing with your life right now?

(Your resources – time, energy, money, etc.)

  1. Why? Why those pursuits? What do you hope to gain?
  2. Do you really believe that obtaining ‘that/those” will satisfy your heart?
  3. Lastly, is there something else that you feel deep down, God might be leading you to do that you’re hiding from doing?

As you hear in Let Go of Me, it’s not too late to repent and find right thinking for your life.

Again, I know that these devo’s might be a big commitment for you but I believe that there’s a treasure, a life to be found if you dig into them wholeheartedly.
