Defy Your Limitations

DAY 4 OF 7

We’ve often heard it said that comparison robs us of our joy. It can also be one of the greatest thieves of our uniqueness and purpose and diminish our God-given identity. It is a dangerous problem born from a belief that we are somehow insufficient or substandard. But, because comparison takes these troubling thoughts and cultivates them in our minds over time, they go from being mere lies to a malicious and malignant mindset that was not fact-based until our wrong thinking made it so.

Comparison is a losing battle that will leave you mentally and physically debilitated. When we accept who we are – what makes us unique and set apart, we can free ourselves from the chains of comparison and walk in the light God has made for us.

In today’s passage, the Apostle Paul is writing a letter to Jesus’ followers in Corinth. Paul is defending himself in this letter, as people have tried to discredit his ministry, and he wants to set the record straight with them. Rather than sharing his achievements of why his resume would give him the authority to say whatever he wanted to the followers of Jesus, Paul chose to humble himself and show us how we should live. Paul ends this segment of the second letter to the Corinthians by saying, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” The first step to overcoming comparison is to put all our confidence in God and not our ability.

If we are ever going to discover fulfillment and function within our unique and distinctive purpose, we must reject the distraction of comparing ourselves to others and instead embrace the truth of what God says about who we are in Him
