Do My Prayers Really Matter to God? 🙏 🤷‍♂️

I vividly remember my freshman year of college. During my first semester at Tulane University, I surrendered my heart to Christ and my life was radically transformed by God… but I also remember hitting a wall early on in my walk when it came to prayer. It was as though my prayers weren’t going beyond the dorm’s ceiling. I remember wondering if God was too busy to care about my prayers. Can you relate?

Unfortunately, people have many misperceptions about prayer! Some think prayer is boring, others think it’s selfish, and sadly many think it’s a waste of time. In spite of this, almost all of us at some point have fallen to our knees, bowed our heads, focused on God, and prayed. Why? Because God innately placed within you and me the desire to reach out to Him for help!

Friend, the truth is, God delights in answering your prayers. He is our Father. From the Hebrew people in the Old Testament being released from slavery, all the way through their entry into the Promised Land, we see God answering prayer. Throughout the Gospels, it’s evident Jesus had a vibrant, daily prayer life. For example, we see in Mark 1:35, in the midst of healing many people and preaching in Galilee, Jesus departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

God’s power and presence, found through prayer, can help you handle any difficulty, dilemma, or discouragement. I’ve seen this time and again in my own life. I have even heard it said, when we work, we work; but when we pray, God works.

Over the coming days, we’ll dive into the Lord’s Prayer together—but it all starts with knowing God not only hears your prayers, but He acts on them. Your prayers matter immensely to God!

● What does it mean to me?

● How can I apply what God is teaching me?

● How can I be specific in prayer today?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
