Three Things to Learn From Two Men: David & Solomon Part II

DAY 5 OF 6

Life without God

Solomon’s downfall in 1 Kings 11 is a powerful reminder of the dangers of allowing our focus to shift away from God. Solomon, known for his wisdom and wealth, was a man who had everything, but he ultimately allowed his desire for power, control, and pleasure to overtake his devotion to God.

Despite God’s warning not to marry foreign women, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. They turned his heart away from the Lord to follow other gods. Many of these marriages were political in nature, as Solomon sought to gain control of different areas by marrying the daughters of kings. But his desire for power and control ultimately surpassed his devotion to God. Have you ever allowed your desire for something else to surpass your devotion to the Lord?

We can see from Solomon’s story that it’s easy to get caught up in pursuing wealth, power, and pleasure and lose sight of our relationship with God. It’s easy to become so focused on our work, goals, and pursuits that we neglect our spiritual well-being. We can become so consumed with achieving success that we forget the importance of maintaining a close relationship with God our Father.

It's essential to keep our focus on God. We should strive to balance our work and our walk with God, ensuring that we are not neglecting our spiritual well-being in pursuit of material gain.

We should also be mindful of the people we surround ourselves with. The people we associate with have a great influence on our lives. If we surround ourselves with people with different values, beliefs, and lifestyles than our own, it can be difficult to maintain a close relationship with God.

Solomon’s story serves as a reminder that our focus determines our finish. We should strive to keep our focus on God, ensuring that our work and pursuits do not overtake our devotion to Him. By remaining faithful to God, we can ensure that the end of our life is not one of unfaithfulness and brokenness but one of holiness and devotion. Yet even when we lack faith, God remains faithful and promises to forgive us if we repent and confess our sins to Him. Run to the Father and let the throne of your heart be only for Him.
